Creating A Moving Plan

When I started thinking about our upcoming move, I realized that I needed to create a plan so that everything went okay. I started working with my family members to evaluate our needs and the things we needed to do, and they were really awesome to work with. We did a lot of research regarding our new city, and we were even able to get our utilities set up before we moved in. This blog is all about creating a rock-solid moving plan and knowing how to avoid problems long-term. You never know, these posts might help you to make your life easier.

Three Easy Items To Help Organize Your Storage Unit

A storage unit can offer ample space for all your household items you normally store in the basement, attic, or garage, but keeping these items organized is the key to finding things you need when you need them. Here are a few helpful tips you can use to organize your storage unit.

Colorful Plastic Totes

Plastic totes offer a sturdy alternative to cardboard boxes, and they come in a wide range of sizes and colors to meet your needs. Choose bins in several different colors, and use the hues to create a color-coded organization system. For example, blue bins might be used for winter clothing, while red bins might be used to store summer pool accessories or outdoor toys. Use masking tape or adhesive labels to denote what is stored inside each container, and group the containers by color for a convenient sorting system.

Metal Gym Lockers

Metal gym lockers are ideal for organizing items in your storage unit. The different compartments tend to have shelves and hooks you can use to organize everything from Christmas decorations to sporting goods, and the sturdy metal construction withstands frequent use. Dedicate each locker to a different type of item, or if you are planning on purchasing more than one row of lockers, designate each section for a different category of items. You can purchase new or used lockers online, or you can find some colorful designs at your local home goods store.

Filing Cabinets

Filing cabinets can be used for a range of storage ideas in your unit. You can use the drawers to organize packing tape, labels, box cutters, and other essential supplies in your storage unit, or you can simply put a file cabinet to work as the "junk drawer" of your storage space. Toss odds and ends or items you aren't sure about keeping in the file cabinet to sort later. The deep drawers offer a great pplace to store old video game systems or electronics along with their power cords and cables.  Of course, you can always use the cabinet to store old check stubs and tax documents that might be taking up precious storage space in your home as well.

If you don't already have these items in your home, head out to your local home goods store. While you are there, look for other items you can use to bring order to your storage space. From tool boxes and cube storage systems to ready-to-assemble cabinets, there are many products available you can use to organize and sort your storage items with.
